How Candidates in Utah Utilized Guerilla Marketing to Inspire Voters

Joanna Hsieh

As political candidates face off across the country, to reach their voters, two Utah candidates have taken matters to try something new. A Twitter video featuring Chris Peterson (R) and Spencer Cox (D), both of whom are running for the position of the governor or Utah, has gone viral. In a format similar to popular Youtube videos, both candidates came together to discuss their stances – in a opposing yet respectful environment. The aim of the video was to show that “We can disagree without hating each other”, Spencer Cox tweeted. In contrast to usually more polarizing political ads, this unlikely example of guerilla marketing shows how an unconventional approach can lead to higher awareness and more success. And saving money while at it!
